The Review:
Dreadful is a black and white splatterfest.  Even between the two artists, the feel is very similar in the way the gore is presented.

The stories are Drywater by Mark Slater, Safe & Sound by Mark Slater, and SKP by Lance Sawyer.  They are all very short and don’t seem to conclude, which makes the reader hungry for more.  Its a lot like an incoherent dream where you get just a little bit, wake up and drift into something else.  Except these dreams have zombies.  Wow, we’ve fallen into my head!

Mark Slater’s art is very boxy, stylized and not highly detailed.  Everyone has either the chiseled, masculine look (Square) or the soft feminine look (Boobage)  Besides changing the line work and shading between comics, they are very similar.  Watch for flying naked man-zomb.  Hehehe.

Lance Sawyer’s SKP was a bit more difficult to judge, as I only had about 5 pages to go by.  He uses a tonal balance of black and white, little shading except where it will make impact, and his zombies are drippy and grotesque, but not terribly detailed.

I would definitely recommend this for my fellow gore hounds and zombie addicts. The action and gore is a lot of fun from both artists and I can’t wait to see what they come up with in the future. According to Mark, they’ve got some devious plans for the second edition.
