The Review:
Today, while trapped in a car for way longer then I find comfortable, I cranked up a book that I’ve been waiting impatiently to read.  Before I tackle the review, I must say that I REALLY should have read this book BEFORE I jumped into Cal Miller’s other book The Zombie’s Survival Guide.  Why?  TZ’sSG (Haha, I can shorten anything!) was written from the perspective of the main character of this book, Het Madden, and having read this book, things in The Zombie’s Survival Guide make a lot more sense.   Not that they didn’t make sense before, but it gives you a better idea of Het’s opinion of the “Healthies” as he called the uninfected.

Alright, now into the book itself!  Its a well-paced, easily read 202 pages.  I finished it in a (relatively) short time, stuck in the car, plagued with distractions.  It was easy to get involved in the book, pop out for a minute to deal with my distractions, and jump right back in and know where I was.

The descriptions are gory, but not over the top.  Cal seems to like to get to the “heart” of the matter, instead of filling two paragraphs with superfluous description of one zombie.  (Hordes are waiting to be described!  I’ve written my whole book!)  The main character Het is well described in attitude, and I’m sure you probably know someone just like him.  Just set aside the fact that he happens to be a zombie.  The rest of the plot’s characters are described, but not in such detail that you couldn’t mentally paste your best friend or worst enemies face over-top of them in your mind.

The story deals with the Wrath virus, a lethal contagion that is turning the healthies into our flesh eating fiends.  This all conveniently takes place in December of 2012, when the world will supposedly end and all hell brakes loose.  Oh look!  Its happened!  But who has caused such things?  *Gasp*

I would describe the book as a mystery/war/horror with a tiny hint of romance hiding inside.  You’ll find contagions, containment camps, government conspiracy, bizarre but fitting religious implications, and a whole lot more if you venture into this world.
